Kelvin is here!

Kelvin Zane was born on Wednesday morning 10/22 at 1:30 am.

He weighed 9 lbs 4.3 oz and was 20.75 inches long

We are so excited to have him as part of our family. He is such a sweet little boy and so adorable.

We went in on Tuesday morning at 10 am and was started on pitocin. I was at 1 cm at the start and it took until about 5pm to reach 3 cms...what a long day! My membranes were ruptured at 5pm and my doc told me I could get my epidural at anytime so I decided to go for it at 6pm, it took full effect like it was supposed to and it was wonderful to have (with my last pg my epi didn't take in my left hip and I felt everything and was miserable for me). I was checked again at 8pm and was only at 4 cms and then at 9:15 and was only up to about 4.5 cms. I was checked next at 11 pm and was only up to 5.5 cms. The last check I had was at 12:50 am and I was complete! I went the last 4.5 cms in 2 hrs...compared to the rest of the day that was fast! We had to wait about 20 minutes for the doc to come in to set things up and get ready for me to push and after 3 and half pushes Kelvin was out and born at 1:30 am! It was so cool to have the pushing go so fast for me this time. (With DS #1 it seemed like I pushed forever) There was a big mirror overhead this time and I was able to see the entire birth and it was so awesome and so what I wanted...didn't get to see anything with DS #1.

I'm so glad that we took card games with us to the hospital, as it sure helped to pass some of the waiting time. Brian, Lynda & I played a few games of Skipbo and Bunko in between the naps I took...what fun!

I've not had too many after pains except in my back. Seems like the spot where the epidural 1st went in keeps hurting and spasming a bit. I hope to get into the chiro this week to have that worked on. My OB has me on an RX of Loratab for the pain right now, and I try to take it sparingly and usually only at night to help me sleep at bit.

My OB was ready to discharge me from the hospital on Thursday evening but the Pediatrician wouldn't discharge the baby until he had been there 48 hrs and wouldn't budge on that. So, we had to wait until Friday to go home and we were out by noon.

Saturday, we had lots of family over (17 people including our family of 4) and it was great fun to catch up with everyone and to share our new bundle of joy. We all went to our ward Halloween party that evening and I was worn out by the end of the day and almost feel like I over did it a bit! I was too worn out to make any appearance at church on Sunday!

Last night we had to take my sister to the airport so she could go home! I was so sad to see her go but it was so great to have her here with us and share this experience with her.

I couldn't sleep!

So, I had a really hard time sleeping last night, which everyone warned me I would.

I was up at 4:45 this morning to get showered and dressed so we could be on the road (need to drop off Rowen at Cathy's on the way). Lo and behold I get a call from the hospital about 5:15 telling me that they are all full up right now and that I will need to wait until they have an opening for me, and that I will need to call back a bit before 8 am to check with the nurse.....ARGH!!!

So, I call back about 7:40 and the nurse says she thinks she will have an opening for me at 10 am but she has a call out to my doctor to verify the time with her schedule. She has called me back and said the time is a go! So we will be off to the hospital soon! I sure hope this really happens today.

I'm going to try and catch a small nap between now and then...I'm tired!

No baby yet

I'm sitting here on the day prior to my due date, sure wishing he was here already!

I thought maybe I was having labor pains last night but they fizzled out by midnight so it was a no go.

I am scheduled for an induction tomorrow morning at 7 am though so at least the end is in site. I am a little nervous about what contractions will feel like with the pitocin as I've heard they can be very strong. Plus I've seen one of my sister's inductions with the use of "Pit" and it didn't look fun but she didn't use any pain meds and it took forever for her to get her epidural. Thankfully I'm open to all pain meds :) and I don't think I will have to worry about ad "epi" being delayed for me like my sister did (shortage of anthesiologist on staff) at least I hope not!

I had a chiropractor appt. this morning and he did some work on the acupunture points that should help to induce labor. I hope they work! It sure hurt when he was doing it too...on my little pinky toes!

Brian gave me a blessing last night to help with my nervousness and I am so thankful for the comfort of the priesthood in my home! I love being able to ask for a blessing when I need one. I know that Heavenly Father knows and loves me and will bless me with the things and comfort that I need. I know that based on my blessing that all will go well in the hospital and that I just need to have faith and confidence in the doctors and nurses.

So the end is in site...yeah!

Continued:
#1: There is a hay bale maze at the patch. Brian & Ro went into the maze and Ro ran off. Brian climbed up on the platform to see if he could find him. Ro ended up going out the other end and coming around the outside of the maze to Mommy.

#2 & 3: Inside the maze there is a tube to crawl through. Rowen loved going back and forth through the tube. It is a good thing that Daddy fit through too!

#4 & 5: On the way out of the patch at the end of our stay one of the tractors with its hay ride trailer were parked. Rowen loved climbing up the steps on the tractor (that was as far as we would let him go). We then put him on the trailer and he again loved playing with the hay.

#6 & 7: At the entrance area to the pumpkin patch there are some nice photo op places. We took a family picture and then a Daddy son picture. In the Daddy Son picture Ro was tired and wouldn't sit still so Brian started flipping him around and having fun and made a cute pic opportunity.

#1: Rowen riding in the wheel barrow full of pumpkins on the way to the scale. The sun kept shinning in his face hence the lack of smile!

#2: Rowen looking at the chickens and ducks. He loved looking at the many birds. He would stick his fingers in the fence and chickens would peck at him...that wasn't so fun.

#3: Rowen looking at the cows as they came to the troughs. The cows would follow him up and down the length of trough, they were just as curious of him as he was of them.

#4 & 5: Rowen loved playing on the jungle gym. At the top of the gym was a steering wheel thingy that Ro loved, and he went down the slide several times.

#6: There was a tower of small hay bales that Ro climbed and he loved pulling at the hay and throwing it in the air.

Visit to the Pumpkin patch 2008

We made our annual trip to the Pumpkin Patch on Friday evening, Oct 10th. Rowen and I met Brian at his work at the end of his work day and then we went over to the patch which is less than 1 mile from his work. We were so glad that we chose to go on a Friday evening instead of waiting until Saturday, there weren't that many people there and made it so much more fun for us!

We rode the hayride out to the patch and then practically had the section of the patch we chose to ourselves. Rowen had a blast walking through the fields and picking out pumpkins with Mom & Dad. We ended up coming home with 5 pumpkins, 3 standard orange, one white, and one white with orange stripes.

Is he here yet?!

OK. I'm sitting here on my birthday, checking my emails and blogs all the while I am having Braxton Hicks contractions that aren't very comfy. I've been telling myself for days now that I don't want to be in labor on my birthday...I just hope I haven't jinxed myself!

But yet, I so badly want my little bundle of joy to arrive! I'm tired of not being able to sleep comfortably, tossing and turning, and always having to go to the bathroom! I know that life with the baby will not be completely normal and will not bring a full night sleep for a long time. But jeez, at least I will be able to sleep on my back and hopefully I will not have such achy hips and back.

I finally have all his baby clothes put away in drawers. I have his hospital bag packed, and mine mostly ready. I still need to pack a bag for Rowen to take to Aunt Cathy's when the time comes. I know that Brian still needs to pack his bag too.

We still need to get the car seat installed in the van. This will entail moving Rowen's seat over so that Kelvin's seat is behind the driver. We will also need to put the back bench seat back in the van...not sure how we are going to accomplish this since I don't think I will be able to help lift it (but maybe it will bring on labor :) ).

I have been drinking my Red Raspberry Leaf Tea religiously everyday (I'm so glad it has a pleasant taste!) to help tone my uterus and hopefully make labor shorter. I didn't do this last time so we will see if it makes any difference.

You know, I really was hoping to have this sweet baby on the 21st to honor my dear sister but I am so ready now and I would not be opposed to him coming earlier :). My blood pressure has been a little high the last few weeks and my doctor may have a little to say about when he comes if it stays high. I took my BP at Walmart on Saturday, and it was 142/90 and that is high for me...I've been running pretty normal the entire pregnancy, at 120/80. Thursday at my appointment it was up to 130/100 and after resting on my left side it only went down a little bit to about 120/90. They drew blood work to check for signs of pre-eclampsia but that all came back normal so that is at least some good news. So for now, I am just watching for signs of high BP and making sure I get plenty of rest (hard to do with a toddler and chores that need to be done). We will see how things are at my appointment on Thursday.

Well...I will end this post for now so I can at least get some of my Monday chores done....blah!
